Meteorological Characteristics

Qiqihar has a temperate continental monsoon climate and distinct four seasons: arid and windy in the spring, hot and rainy in the summer, short and frosty in the autumn, dry, cold and long in the winter. The southern part of Qiqihar is in the warm and arid agroclimatic region, middle part in the mild and semi-arid agroclimatic region, and northern part in the warm and cool semi-humid agroclimatic region.

Qiqihar has an average temperature between 2.2℃ and 5.2℃, 3℃ difference between the northern part and the southern part and the average annual frost-free period ranges from 126 days to 162 days, and the average annual amount of solar radiation is 168 mega joules per square meter, similar to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with the amount of solar radiation in the growing period (May to September) being 97 mega joules per square meter.

The annual sunshine duration is 2500 to 2830 hours and the sunshine duration in the growing period (May to September) is 1300 to 1350 hours.

The annual precipitation is between 400 to 520 mm, and the precipitation in the growing period is between 350 and 480 mm, occupying 85% of total annual precipitation.

The favorable climatic conditions of Qiqihar are adequate solar radiation, rain and heat in the same reason, while the unfavorable climatic conditions are aridness, drought, low temperature, early frost and wind, and their damage to agricultural crops vary greatly from year to year and from region to region.
